Happy Holidays

I'm not trying to be "politically correct" when I say Happy Holidays. I have friends and family from several faiths. Christmas, Hanukkah, Yule... all are important to me because they are important to the people in my life. Freedom of religion, freedom from persecution because of sexual preference, freedom to be who you are without ridicule for any reason should be a way of life for everyone, not a select few.

(Off my soap box now)... The Christmas holiday has snuck up on me this year. I'm never really ready for it, but this year it took the postal worker telling me Christmas is next week for me to realize how late in the year it is. Sheesh. I've had my head in the books, writing, writing, writing. I don't see a problem with getting immersed in the alternate world I write about until reality slips away!  This particular book, Jasper, Book 6 in the Stone Society, is very special to me. Jasper and Trevor tugged at my heartstrings from the beginning. I've let their story linger in the background as long as I could, wanting to keep them all to myself.

Now, I'm closing in on "the end" and ready to share them with you. They will be coming to an e-reader on February 10th... Stay tuned for the cover reveal early in January.

Until, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!!!

Nikolas Cover Reveal and My First Book Signing

There's so very much going on right now. Tomorrow I leave for West Virginia. It's my first book signing and it's a huge one! I'm nervous and excited, but cannot wait to see all the readers.  I just saw the cover for Nikolas, Book 5 in the Stone Society, and it is GORGEOUS!  I will be doing a cover reveal/pre-order/giveaway hopefully tomorrow before I hit the road.

Stay tuned and I'll catch you on the flip side!

Nikolas, Book 5 in the Stone Society, is on its way

I wrote the end, and now the editing is in progress. With Frey, Book 4, being so deep and serious, I tried to lighten this one up a bit. Don't get me wrong, there is angst, trials, and tribulations, but the adventure is fun and exciting. The sex is HOT, and Sophia is not the mousy librarian everyone believes her to be. Hold on to your camels!

With every book, I try to find people (actors, models, athletes) who look like the characters and put them on pinterest. Here's my link if you want to check it out... Faith Gibson Pinterest page but I'm having a really hard time with Nik. I see him in my head, but there is nobody out there that I have found who looks like my version. So I chose someone close. Same with Sophia. These two are so special, nobody compares. But alas, I chose someone anyway.

Tomorrow is Halloween, my favorite day of the year. I will put aside the editing pen to dress up as a Xan Demon, complete with horns and pointy ears, and hand out candy. Then I will go have fun with adults. Here's to a blessed Samhain to you all. May the spirits that crossover when the veil is thin be those you wish to commune with.

Stone Society Family Tree

With so many characters in the series, it is almost impossible to do a "tree" that you can read. Instead, I have listed the characters and their mates. These are the ones who have been mentioned to date (most of them anyway). There are some lesser characters who aren't listed. As the series progresses, I will list new mates and siblings of Isabelle.

Hello October!

October is my absolutely favorite month of the year. This year, not only do I get Halloween, but also the release of my first full length love story with two leading men. They won't be the last either. I recently had inspiration from a night on the town. That story will be here in early 2016.

For now, I'm back to the Gargoyles. Nik's story is coming along nicely, and I'm having so much fun studying Egyptian history. Nikolas is slated for release the end of November.

Signed paperbacks are available on my website. If you order any of the books between now and the end of the month and mention this blog post, I will pay the shipping within the continental US. Outside the US I will offer $5 off your order. You will need to email your order instead of using the paypal buttons. Remember, books make great holiday and birthday gifts.

Deliver Me is still $2.99 until it goes live tomorrow, so get your copy pre-ordered today...

Deliver Me Cover and PreOrder

I am so excited about Deliver Me. My first published work was a short story about two men, and I've been chomping at the bit to write another love story in the same genre. Now I have. Deliver Me is a rock n roll love story between one of the world's biggest rock stars and a doctor. Here is the blurb:

Taggart Lee has it all.
Fame.
Fortune.
Everything except love.

Tag is the jaded lead singer for 7’s Mistress, the biggest rock band in the world. After fifteen years in the business, he’s drowning in it all. When tragedy strikes, he takes a break from the road and the monotony his life has become. When he meets a gorgeous man on a park bench, he sees his lifeline.

Dr. Erik Henrikson thought he’d met the one.
He had.
The wrong one.

A year after his breakup, he still has a lock on his heart. Then he meets Lee, someone whose life has just been turned upside down. When he finds out Lee’s true identity, Erik throws away the key.

Tag has two weeks to make the doctor want him. He has three months to prove he won’t hurt him.

Tragedy brings them together.

Lies and betrayal push them apart.

Is love enough to deliver them?

Deliver me can be preordered here Deliver Me Amazon for $2.99.  The price will go up to $3.99 on release day.  If you like MM, please consider giving this book a read.

A Different Kind of Story

While I am working on Nikolas, Stone Society Book 5, I am also writing a different kind of story. Deliver Me is a MM story. It has a rock n roll god as the lead character and a gorgeous pediatrician as the object of his desire. MM is my favorite genre to read, and it only makes sense it would be one I would want to write.

My first published work was a short story and it was MM. Candy Hearts was originally published in a Valentine's Day anthology, but it will forever have a special place in my heart as the story that started it all.

If you like MM stories, and want something short and sweet, check out Candy Hearts

The End is Just The Beginining

Earlier today I wrote "the end" on Book 4 in The Stone Society series. I cannot wait for this book to be out in the cosmos for everyone to read. It's heartbreaking with a side of happily ever after.

For me, the hardest part about writing is editing. I write whatever pops in my head until I get to "the end" and then I go back and read the story. Sometimes I love what I've written, and sometimes I think what the fuck? Sometimes my editors ask me what the fuck? It's those moments I know the words have to either come out, or totally be revamped.

Today, I wrote the end and looked at my word count. 99,986.  I knew that wouldn't last. As soon as I remembered a few things I meant to write, it was over 100,000.  To me, that's a lot of words considering my first book in the series that introduced the story and characters came in under 80,000.
So tonight I'll take a step back, reach for a book totally out of my genre, and chill. Or cry. The book is supposed to make me cry ugly. I hate crying ugly, but I so love Sandrine Gasq Dion's books.

Burgers on the grill, cold beer in my hand. Later, lots of tissues.  Tomorrow, back to Frey.

not so sweet summertime

May was a very good month. Sales were up and that's great since I was promoting for the Keith Milano Memorial Fund.  I got to go to the beach and ride in a helicopter. I went to my first ever writing retreat with fellow authors and I was thrilled beyond words to meet one of my heros, Kendall Grey.  (If you haven't read her books, you really should.)

Now, It's June. While technically we're still 12 days away from the summer solstice, the weather is heating up quickly.  I'm more of a fall girl with the cool breezes and the leaves changing colors, the Halloween decorations and such. I'm cool with summer until the 4th of July, and then I'm done with it. I'll stop complaining and get to writing now.

I raise my glass of fruity concoctions to you all and hope for cool breezes to blow your way...

Month of May Suicide Prevention - Multi Author Donations and Giveaway

An amazing group of authors have agreed to donate a portion of their May 2015 books sales to the Keith Milano Memorial Fund at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).
The Keith Milano Memorial Fund was established to help raise awareness about the devastating and deadly disease that is mental illness.  Our hope is that by having the strength to say that Keith was “Bipolar” we can strip away the stigma.
If anyone wishes to make a direct donation to the Keith Milano Memorial Fund they can do that HERE.
Our goal is to raise awareness about mental illness and to get people talking…..
Suicide is the second leading cause of death for ages 10-24; the US loses 22 Vets a day to suicide, more than they lose in combat; there is one death by suicide in the US every 13 minutes. These statistics are scary but together we can work to make a difference!
This year the event will also include an online auction and author takeover over 4 amazing days!! We hope that you will join us for not only some great auction items but to have an opportunity to speak with participating authors during an epic author take over event.

Personal Message from Denise Milano Sprung: When Keith passed away, I made a promise to myself that he would not go quietly nor would he be forgotten. It is with the help of all of you that 10 years later, I am able to keep this promise and most of all to be able to help others who may be suffering in silence.
Thank you does not seem like enough. So please know that from the bottom of my heart to the depths of my soul, every one-click of these books helps others and continues to reduce the stigma that is associated with mental illness. THANK YOU for all you do and for spreading the word and for opening your hearts to help others.

What to Write?

Dante is in the hands of the beta readers. Frey is next in the Stone Society series and I have already started writing it. But, Scott's story is weighing heavy on my brain right now, so the next story in the Sweet Things group might just get bumped up.  Regardless, I will continue writing while waiting to get Dante back.

Still waiting on the awesome cover for Dante, and boy is it going to be stellar. Think Hot Guy and beautiful Greek waters.  That's what's coming...

Have you signed up for my newsletter? If you have, you'll be getting chapter one from Dante this week.  If you haven't and you want to, just click here:

And I just wrote: The End

After having to take time off for personal reasons, the writing got back on track. Dante was a fun book to write, mainly because it contains a child. I love writing children characters. Connor was no exception. He's smart and gifted and he loves his Da!  Yes, a little bit of a spoiler there.

Now, the story is in the hands of the editors. Release date is tentatively May 12.  Stay tuned...

The new writing cave

During the winter, I enjoy writing in front of the fireplace. Now that spring is officially here, my cave has moved to the patio. The gentle breeze, the flowers blooming, and the birds feeding are a balm to the soul. Life happened and I had to take a couple weeks off from writing, but Dante is back in front of me and moving along nicely.  I am still slating his release for sometime in May.

Here are 2 of my favorite things together, tulips and puppies...

Troubled Hearts is Live

So thankful to the folks at Dark Hollows Press for indulging me.  This book is special to me. It's the very first full length story I had published. I was new to the publishing world and didn't realize how important the title and cover would be. So after much consideration, Double Stuffed Eclairs is now Troubled Hearts, and it's live.  It is the same story on the inside, just has a great new look. If you like contemporary romance with a little suspense thrown in, check it out.

I write because I have to

I have read a couple of really interesting articles lately. Ok, I've read a lot of articles, but two really stuck with me. If there is an article regarding being an author, I try to read it. Hopefully it will give me good tips on being a better writer.

One article was on a blog and it was talking about authors asking readers what they wanted.  Their advise was to write what you want to. Not every reader will like your story, your ending, your dialogue, your subject matter, etc.  What matters is that the author writes the story they want to tell, how they want to tell it. I have found this to be true. Not everyone who reads my books likes them. I'm okay with that, as long as I have those who do like the way I write, the characters, the dialogue, etc. I love my characters. I have to. They are a part of me, living in my brain, 24/7.  Yes, they speak to me. Yes, they dictate where the story goes. I'm okay with that.

Another article spoke about "how to tell if you're really a writer".  After several key points, the last one was the only one that mattered: you write because you have to.  This is me.  I have written since I was a teenager. From stories, to poetry, to song lyrics, I write. I doodle.  I make notes. I sometimes put these ideas together and sometimes, I don't. But I write. I have no choice.

Having said all that, I am a writer. I am going to a writer's retreat in May. I buy writing books. I am honing my craft. I want to be a better writer. If you have to do something, do it well.  Do it to the best of your ability. I want to write, to the best of my ability...

Monday, March 9, 2015

Come on Spring

I love snow, really REALLY love snow. But I am over it. I had the pretty, fluffy flakes and now I'm ready for spring. I am ready for the weather to warm up just enough that I can turn the heat off and open the windows. Just enough that I can sit on my patio and write. That is my favorite "writing cave".  When the breeze blows gently, the birds are singing, and the hummingbirds are buzzing around, that is the best environment for me as a writer.

So, please, Mother Nature, according to the calendar, this Friday is technically the first day of Spring.  Please don't let me down.

Talk to Me

As an author, I love interacting with my readers. When someone gets excited about a book and wants to know what's next... when someone has questions about the story line... when someone just wants to chat... all of it. Sometimes I find posts on facebook where someone has tried to engage me in conversation, but because they couldn't (or didn't) tag me, the post gets lost or buried.

The best way to contact me is through my website, using the contact page. Or send me a pm through facebook. So come on, talk to me...

And so it begins - Book 3

Actually, both book three and four in the Stone Society series are underway.  Dante's story is coming along nicely, if it has taken a twist from my original plan early on.  These characters have a way of writing their own stories, and I'm just along for the ride.

Frey is adamant that his story be told next. It happens at the same time books 2 and 3 happen and it is basically written in my head.  I just need to put it to paper.

5k words written yesterday is a great start...

Book Titles

One of the most important things in writing a book is coming up with a good title.  In trying to be clever with my Sweet Things series, I titled the first book Double Stuffed Eclairs. The meaning was clear when I started the book. By the time I finished writing and re-writing the story, the title had lost its meaning.  When a main character shuts down your ending, adds extra characters, and has her own idea of the ending, you have to go with the flow. I should have realized then that the title wasn't going to work.  I did not.  So now, after months of lamenting over the "wrong" title, I have decided to change it.

In keeping with the hearts theme from the Candy Hearts novella, I am going with Troubled Hearts. This new title will bring about a new cover as well. This change will help with the next book in the series, tentatively titled Mending Hearts. I already have the cover picked out for it (that is if the characters allow me to continue the story as I have it planned out).  I hope the new title and cover will be out soon.  I am in love with both and I want everyone to join in my happiness.

I just had the privilege of seeing the cover for our Poetry anthology.  I love it.  Love being the key word here.  I am also stoked about showing the Gregor cover this Saturday with the ladies from TaSTy WordGasms Blog.  A lot of hard work goes into creating a cover and both of these covers are awesome.  I cannot wait to share them with you.

who knew?

Who knew that badass alpha Gargoyle shifters had such a soft side? Gregor was inspired to write a poem for Tessa.  Look for it at the end of the book...

when the words come

It is amazing at how the stories come about. I really try to piece together a timeline for my books. I know the beginning and ending, most of the in-betweens, and how I see the characters acting. While I was doing something totally unrelated to the next story in the series, the characters started talking to me. Of course, I stopped what I was doing an wrote down what they wanted me to write.  I can tell that Dante is going to be totally different than I originally thought.  Sneaky that one. So yes, Dante has officially started.

writing poems

I love writing poems.  Today, poetry has become more of a "freestyle" type of writing. It is just another outlet to express myself.  I am honored to be included in a poetry book with 9 other women. All of the proceeds will be going to charity. So, not only do I get to put more of my work out there, but it's for a good cause. I have written 5 poems but one i am keeping for myself, to be used in one of my books.  I have one more to write for inclusion in the poetry book, then i will return to the Stone Society.

Gregor - coming February 10

I am so freaking excited about this book. I just can't tell you how much so! Rafael, book, 1 was a combination of a book I started about six years ago and the new world I wanted to create with the Gargoyles.  It has so much back story but it had to be that way.  Rafael and Kaya are a great couple and they will not fall by the wayside.  They are too important to the Stone Society, being King and Queen.

Gregor's story was so much fun to write and I knew it would be.  The love/hate relationship between him and Tessa was seamless to write. I never questioned their beginning, nor their end.  The in between for those two came instantly. The other characters' stories came in flashes, in dreams, and in the shower.  I often have epiphanies driving down the road and this happened with one of the characters.  He spoke to me and I was crying when he told me his story.  You will get a glimpse of that in Gregor.

Dante is next.  I know where his story starts and ends and I have most of the in between.  Once I did deeper, I'm sure he'll be whispering in my ear as well.

But for now, look for Gregor and Tessa's wild ride on February 10.

my resolution...

As 2014 comes to a close, I am looking forward to the New Year. As I sat and thought about what my resolution would be, I decided to hope more. I resolve to hope, every day, that love will shine through. I hope that compassion will replace prejudice. I hope that love will replace hate. I hope that smiles will replace tears. I hope that giving will replace taking. I hope that peace replaces fighting. I hope that parents love their children, unconditionally. I hope that children remember their parents are getting older every day. I hope that instead of looking at someone with disdain, people will open their hearts and see the person inside. I hope that full bellies replace hunger. I hope that soldiers return home and instead of feeling lost, they are nurtured back into a non-war society. I hope that everyone realizes that love is love and you should be able to love whomever you want, regardless of sex or color. I hope that hope replaces helplessness. I hope that everyone pays it forward because you always have something to share, even if it’s a smile or a kind word. This year, in 2015, I resolve to hope.

Happy New Year
